Reflecting On My Trip With The Interior Design Society To Paris

Photo from my trip of vintage fabric sample books

I am just back from my trip to Paris with the Interior Design Society, surrounded by a collaborative group of interior designers who shared their artistic visions and business knowledge. Not surprising, Paris has yet again provided me with an abundance of inspiration and creativity. This trip has strengthened my understanding of the creative process, meaningful design aesthetics, and craftsmanship, of which is of the utmost importance to me.

My first trip to Paris, when I was 18 and with my beloved Granny, was pivotal moment in my life, sparking a profound connection to French culture and design. The city's vibrancy, iconic architecture, and elegance in every detail sparked a creative part of me that influenced not just a love for design but a deep appreciation for the French way of blending history with modernity, their respect for the culture of the arts, and the art of slow living. I couldn't' articulate it then, but as an adult I can now fully understand and appreciate it more with every passing year.

Little did I know then that this early travel experience would shape a lifelong admiration for not only meaningful travel experiences, but the art of creating timeless and sophisticated spaces, merging beauty with function—a hallmark of French design that continues to inspire me today. It shaped me and is still present with me today in my love of experiences, food, and fashion, as well as how I define my style and live my life.

I found that 18-year-old girl again in Paris, totally in awe of the buildings, the art, the fashion and the people and even greater appreciation for the gardens and food. I was very much expecting this trip to Paris to fuel my passion for creating beautiful, thoughtful spaces. But what was unexpected about this trip was how it re-confirmed my design philosophy and the decision to shift my career to a creative field where I can share my passion through clients' homes, thrive as a female business owner, and continue my other passion of lifelong learning and experiences.

merci,

Amanda
